Where Can I Buy A Westie Puppy

The average price of a West Highland White Terrier puppy in the United States is currently around $1,850 (the most popular price range being $700-$3,000) and in the UK 1,725 (ranging from 950-2,500). These numbers being a range means you can purchase a puppy for less than this or you might be asked to pay more.

I paid a 125 ( $170) adoption fee for him in 2014, which went towards covering a full health check, the necessary vaccinations, veterinary care, microchipping, and dog food. Although the adoption fee has almost tripled since then, it still seems a low amount compared to purchasing a puppy from a breeder.

Knowledgeable breeders: Even if it costs more to buy a Westie from a knowledgeable breeder who has put in time and effort into ensuring that you are getting a healthy puppy with show-winning qualities, this investment can pay off in the future, both financially and in terms of what you gain from your Westie.

Registration papers: Some breeders are members of a nationally recognized association such as the Kennel Club in the UK or the American Kennel Club in the United States. Registering their dogs with their respective breed organization ensures the pedigree is true and parents can be traced to verify expected traits for a Westie. This will also add to the overall price of a puppy.

Trends and popularity of a breed: One of the most influencing factors of a Westie puppy price is how popular the breed is at a given time. For example, puppies tend to be more desirable after a certain breed wins at Crufts or if a celebrity popularises them on social media.

First time or rehomed: A westie rehomed from a shelter or rescue center is always cheaper than buying a puppy direct from a breeder. Of course, there are still other costs to consider, such as vaccinations and microchip registration, neutering or spaying if the dog has not already been done and health insurance.

First of all, we must emphasize that not all breeders are the same or even care for the animals they bring into this world. Try and avoid commercial breeders and puppy farmers by ensuring you buy from a licensed breeder specializing in Westies. Kennel Clubs have a directory of such entities.

A lot of people are interested in the family history of their Westie puppy. There were pictures of puppy's parents, past parents, grandparents and even great grandparents, some even 4 to 6 generations back on the original website. I am very slowly trying to find the old photos and add them back on here. I must say the slide show take a long time so wondering if I should separate out grandparents from current parents. But some are both grandparents and current parents.

The back yard also had a big red "slide" only westies and a dachshund rescue mix dog would actually slide down on it. They usually stopped anytime I had the camera but I caught one in action by peeking around the corner as she was sliding down. They are SO funny!

Choosing a good bed for your new westie puppy is important. Look for one that is comfortable, supportive, and easily washable. Make sure the bed is large enough for your puppy to grow into, and that the material is durable enough to withstand wear and tear. Choose a bed that is made from a breathable material to help keep your puppy cool and comfortable. Finally, look for a bed that is easy to clean and maintain.

Veterinarians recommend getting your new puppy use to teeth brushing at an early age. They should quickly get use to the idea of someone touching their teeth. We like these small, nearly invisible finger toothbrushes. iHeartDogs knows the importance of dental health for dogs (it could save their life as they age) so they give them away for free (just pay S&H)

One of the most popular new items for a westie puppy is a calming heartbeat puppy plush toy. This plush mimics the heartbeat of a mother dog. It also includes a one time use heat pack to mimic the warmth as well. Many dog owners find these very useful for crate training or periods of time when the puppy needs to be left alone.

Feeding your Westie puppy a well-balanced diet is important for their overall health and development. You should feed your Westie puppy a high-quality puppy food that is specially formulated for small breeds. Look for a food that contains a balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, as well as essential vitamins and minerals. You should also avoid giving your Westie puppy table scraps or human food, as this can cause digestive issues and obesity.

Westies are wonderful family pets. They get along well with cats and other dogs, and they are social butterflies that love being around people. But because of their hunting instincts, young children might not be a great fit for the easily excitable Westie. Make sure your Westie has continual socialization experiences starting in puppyhood.

Several breed-specific and non-specific health problems appear in the breed, including a condition in young dogs nicknamed "westie jaw" which causes an overgrowth of bone in the jaw of the dog. It can also be prone to skin disorders, with a breed-specific condition called hyperplastic dermatosis occurring. They are a very energetic and boisterous breed, needing regular exercise of around one hour per day.[1]

The breed is pre-disposed to conditions found in many breeds, such as abdominal hernias.[13] Westie puppies may be affected by craniomandibular osteopathy, a disease also known as "lion jaw", and is sometimes also referred to as "westie jaw".[14] The disease is an autosomal recessive condition, so a puppy can only be affected by it if both of its parents are carriers of the faulty gene. The condition appears across many breeds, including several different types of terriers, as well as other unrelated breeds such as the Great Dane. It typically appears in dogs under a year old, and can cause problems for the dog to chew or swallow food. Radiographic testing can be conducted to diagnose the condition, in which the bones around the jaw thicken; additionally, the blood may show increased calcium levels and enzyme levels. The condition often stops progressing by the time the dog is a year old, and in some cases can recede. It is normally treated with anti-inflammatory medications, and the feeding of soft foods. In some cases, tube feeding may be necessary.[15]

An inherited genetic problem that exists in the breed is globoid cell leukodystrophy. It is not breed-specific, and can appear in Cairn Terriers and other breeds including Beagles and Pomeranians. It is a neurological disease wherein the dog lacks the enzyme galactosylceramidase. The symptoms are noticeable as the puppy develops, and can be identified by the age of 30 weeks. Affected dogs have tremors, muscle weakness, and trouble walking. Symptoms slowly increase until limb paralysis begins to occur. Due to it being a hereditary condition, owners should avoid breeding affected animals to eliminate it from the breed.[18] Another genetic condition that affects the breed is "white dog shaker syndrome". As this condition is most commonly found in Westies and Maltese, the condition was originally thought to be connected to the genes for white coats, but the same condition has since been found in other non-white breeds including the Yorkshire Terrier and the Dachshund. The condition typically develops over one to three days, resulting in tremors of the head and limbs, ataxia, and hypermetria. Affected males and females can be affected for different lengths of time, with symptoms in females lasting between four and six weeks, while males can be affected the rest of their lives.[19]

Whether you have a show dog or a companion dog, the same basic care is given regarding nutrition, socialization, and hygiene. The difference is the grooming maintenance and training for the show ring. It is always helpful if your breeder is willing to help mentor you to lead you in the right direction upon entering the wonderful world of show dogs. A great place to start is with the national breed club like the Westie Club of America, www.westieclubamerica.com

We have had our first set of vaccinations and are microchipped. We are all very sweet, inquisitive, and loving puppies, cuddly and affectionate!! We LOVE to play and run around outside looking for twigs, help in the garden and we have plenty of puppy teething toys to keep us busy. We are mastering our potty-training skills and sleep all through the night. Our foster moms say we are very good puppies and we are starting to learn the sit command.

This option prints white under all areas of the design except for the pre-set area around the eyes where no white ink underbase will be printed. You will not be able to see through art and text printed elsewhere on the face shield

This option allows for a custom white ink underbase to be created. To do this, a second design area is unlocked where the white ink underbase can be defined. While images and text placed in this second design area define where white-ink underbase is printed, black images and text define where no white-ink underbase will be printed. Because visibility is important with face shields, designs where white ink underbase covers the areas that customers would expect to be able to see through will be rejected.

This options prints white ink only under all images and text, blocking most light from passing through those areas of the floor decal. This means that, except for the areas where text and images have been added, you will be able to partially see through the floor decal.
